Last month, a team of dedicated local swimmers took to the pool for a gruelling 24-hour swim, whilst raising much needed funds for charity.

The team of 19 swimmers, nicknamed MSMM Megaswim Mega Mates, took part in the MS Megaswim on 14th and 15th May at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

Swimming a total of 89.3kms over 24 hours, they have raised over $11,000, with $10,936 confirmed and another $600 awaiting to be added to the team’s tally.

Representing Glenmore Park was Joshua Auld (Teacher’s Aide), Talan Quinn, Emma Borg (students) of Glenmore Park High School and Klarissa Goodwin of Penrith Anglican College.

Jack, William, and Ava Barry of Penola Catholic College represented Mulgoa.

The MS Megaswim involved teams swimming around the clock from midday Saturday to midday Sunday, always having a swimmer in the water throughout the 24-hours.

Swimmers raise money in the form of donations and all money raised contributes to MS Go for Gold Scholarships, financial assistance programs and providing services to directly benefit people living with Multiple Sclerosis.

“The team’s motivation was to use a sport that they all participate in or have participated in to help make a difference to the lives of sufferers of this chronic disease, Multiple Sclerosis” explained Charmaine Auld, mother of Joshua Auld and team spokesperson.

“It is particularly close to the heart of two of the team members, who have seen firsthand how this disease has affected a family member over the last few years” she continued.
