Much loved local business, Mulgoa Spitroast Professionals has closed after 32 years of serving the local community.
Owners Neil and Sue Jeffries started the business in 1989 as a franchise and it was known as Australian Spitroast Professionals. Franchise owners at the time included well-known Australian chef Bernard King who owned the neighbouring Blue Mountains business.

Leaving the franchise in 1999, it became Mulgoa Spitroast Professionals.

“We made the decision to close the business recently, for a couple of reasons. COVID has changed the way that people could get together and celebrate occasions being one. Along with after giving up every weekend for 32 years was another good reason to say it’s now time to slow down a bit and start to enjoy some freedom and not be so committed to catering every weekend” said Sue Jeffries, owner of Mulgoa Spitroast Professionals.

The business’ specialty was spitroast buffet catering, which allowed them to cook large cuts of meat. Their beef and pig could feed up to 150 people from one spit. The unique setup allowed them to carve directly from the spit to the plate, keeping the food hot the entire time.

“One of the best things about having this type of business was it involved the family, which gave our kids a great start to the working world and a sense of achievement” she replied.

There were many highlights over the past three decades.

“We catered for 770 hungry RAAF people at Richmond RAAF Base in a hangar. Sydney Jeep Club Jamberoo at Rydal was an amazing weekend feeding 800 plus guests. Ray Hadley’s 30 Years in Radio Celebration with all the stars was a great function. We also enjoyed the Scottish Highlands event at Bundanoon for the past 10 years” Sue reflected.

“The biggest highlight was the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. We catered for the NSW Police Force, who also came from all over Australia for security at the Games. We fed 100 police for 21 days that stayed at Winbourne in Mulgoa.

They later presented us with a police plaque, signed shirt and all the Olympic pins. We have them framed and they hang proudly at home. It was an amazing time and something that we will never forget” ended Sue.
