Born to Perform

Vocalist and pianist Alina Wakeling was born to perform. Taking to the stage for the first time at just 4 years of age, the accomplished musician is proving to be one of the hardest working local performers in the industry.

A former Caroline Chisholm College student, Alina has already completed 12 years of piano and 15 years of dance training. Adding to this with further studies in musical theatre singing and music composition, she has a resume to rival any seasoned performer.

“The musical exposure I had at my church, Corpus Christi Cranebrook, inspired and motivated me to start. Growing up, I used to listen to my Dad and my singing teacher, Sheridan, sing regularly at church. I was always eager to join in!” explained Alina to the District Gazette.

Locally, Alina has performed at events such as Penrith Rotary Carols, Penrith Festival, Penrith Show, World Voice Day, and Penrith Relay for Life. She also regularly performs at weddings and funerals around Sydney.

Some of Alina’s musical highlights in her career have included being a member of the Blue Mountains Musical Society, where she was cast and had roles in The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar. In 2020, she performed as a soloist in ‘BMMS Online’, a live streamed musical theatre concert broadcasted to Sydney residents during the pandemic.

“I love musical theatre, but I also love a good pop ballad! I was always inspired by Delta Goodrem and her influence is very apparent in the music I have composed over the years” she smiled.

Away from performing, Alina splits her time teaching piano and singing. She has been a choir coach and movement teacher with the Nepean Valley Voices Children’s Choir. Whether it’s tutoring students at her private studio or at Caroline Chisholm College, she has a passion for sharing her love of music!

Alina’s next challenge is to open a new teaching studio in Penrith.
