“This 1970 Datsun 240Z is a very much sort after 240Z, being car number 259 in the first production run and a matching engine numbers 240Z with its original 2.4 litre engine and 5 speed manual gearbox” said John Wakeling a local Sydney car enthusiast and member of the Z Car Club Sydney.
Launched on October the 22nd 1969 in the USA, only 319 240Zs came to Australia in 1970. This makes the 240Z a very rare beast indeed, compared to Holden’s and Fords.
The Datsun 240Z was faster, quieter, and less expensive and had better brakes and handling and virtually destroyed the market for British sports cars in the USA. It also proved to be a very tough competition car on and off road.
Today it’s a cult car, idolised by many as it’s the timeless classic sports car that’s easy to live with and yet ticks all the boxes in terms of performance, great shape, rarity and fantastic sounding 6-cylinder engine.
It’s a true classic sports car to fully enjoy! Come to Damfest and see one of the largest gatherings of 240Z and Z cars celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Z car. John will have both his 240Z’s on display. Coined Zedfest, you will need to register to assure your Z car has a spot in the display. The Z Car Club Sydney will be running its show and shine, so you’ll see some of the best Z cars at Damfest Warragamba on the 20th October. Register before the 8th of October at Zedfest2019@gmail.com.
