Harrington Park Kennel Volunteer Recommends ‘Hound Love’

Harrington Park volunteer Prasad Lokanadan has been with Greyhound Rescue for over a year and does Sunday mornings at its kennels near Camden.

“I joined because I enjoy volunteering and giving back to the community. Also, I wanted to learn more about the breed as I have two greyhounds of my own” said Prasad.

Prasad said he’d highly recommend volunteering at Greyhound Rescue kennels.

“You get to interact with many beautiful dogs and with many wonderful people working together towards a common goal of finding the next happily ever after home for our kennel kids”.

He said he finds from the moment he starts his shift that working with greyhounds is therapeutic.

“I always end up forgetting about my troubles. It’s also great to be working side by side with other volunteers who are like-minded and enjoy caring for the dogs” said Prasad.

“You learn a lot at the kennels, like how to provide enrichment activities, as it avoids the dogs getting bored”.
Prasad explained that if people are interested, the AM shift is 8:00am to 11:00am, whilst the afternoons are 2:00pm to 5:00pm, seven days a week.

“We really need more volunteers on the Tuesday PM shift, as well as Wednesday and Thursday AM and PM” ended Prasad.

Volunteers can commit to as little as one shift/month and all help is appreciated.

Would-be volunteers can apply and watch a video about volunteering at Greyhound Rescue’s kennels at greyhoundrescue.com.au/get-involved/volunteering.

Greyhounds are very placid, sensitive dogs. Most need one 20-minute walk daily. They’re perfect for families or anyone who needs a furry friend.
