Empowering Girls and Young Women

Did you know there are over 10 million Girl Guides worldwide? Girl Guides participate in many exciting activities and challenges each year. Emu Plains Girl Guides, which formed in Glenmore Park 18 years ago, moved to Emu Plains just over a year ago where they now meet at the Guide Hall.

Emu Plains Girl Guides is made up of Junior Guides (7 to 10 years) and Guides (10 to 14 years). Warimoo Senior Guides (14 to 18 years) recently joined the district too.

“We participate in great outdoor events such as a camp in Centennial Park for Junior Guides in April and a sleepout under the stars at Taronga Zoo in August. The most exciting event this year is the Senior Guides travelling to Mexico for a Day of the Dead camp at Our Cabana, the Mexican Girl Guide World Centre” explained Emu Plains Girl Guides’ Thea Hams.

The local group are already planning their trip to Mexico, with fundraising events underway.
“We have some great paint-along nights for the Mexican trip nicknamed “Cheezels and Easels” Night. We have so much fun following a painting tutorial by one of the Guide leaders and making our own masterpieces, where we provide all the equipment – even the Cheezels! You can check out our upcoming theme nights such as Harry Potter and Star Wars at www.facebook.com/cheezelsandeasels. We’d love to see you there” wowed Thea.

“The friendships I’ve made through Guiding and the difference I’ve made in some girls lives is truly overwhelming. I started as a parent volunteer to help my daughter’s unit but was encouraged by my friend Sam to join as a leader. I am now enjoying opportunities like the Mexico trip – things I never could have imagined, all with the support of my fellow Guides and its incredible!” she continued.

Emu Plains Girl Guides currently have a waiting list for their Junior Guide unit, however they do have a few vacancies for their Guide unit. They always welcome enquiries for new members.
