Mulgoa Rural Fire Brigade has recently added 6 new firefighters to its dedicated team of volunteers – Blade Steer, Cameron Herrick, Kyle Beukers, Daniel Timbs, Brad Shaw and Debbie Brown.   

These firefighters recently passed their ‘Basic Firefighter’ qualification on Sunday, 3 June 2018. This entry-level qualification allows members to attend a variety of incidents ranging from grass to bush fires. 

Mulgoa started its recruitment drive through their Facebook page back in December 2017, just after the Mayfair Road Fire that started on Christmas Eve of the same year.   

An information session was held on 16 January 2018, and it was through this session that Cameron, Kyle, Daniel, Brad and Debbie found out more about volunteering with the NSW Rural Fire Service.   

Blade joined Mulgoa following in the steps of his father – Mark Steer and uncle – Phillip Steer, who have both been with the brigade for over 30 years. 

People volunteer with the NSW Rural Fire Service for a wide range of reasons. They can range from wanting to protect their families and friends to wanting to give back to their community. 

Firefighters are trained to respond to a variety of situations ranging from bush and grass fires to motor vehicle accidents and structure fires. 

New members are always welcome at Mulgoa. If you are interested in joining the Mulgoa Rural Fire Brigade, send them a message through their Facebook page or alternatively stop by the station on either Tuesday night’s (from 7pm) or Saturday afternoon’s (from 1pm) to speak to one of the members.
