Emu Plains Junior Rugby League Football Club (JRLFC) are looking to lead the local competition once again in 2023, after a highly successful campaign last season.

The club has wasted no time, with training already commencing for all age groups. Trial games will begin this month and round one kicking off on Saturday 15th April.

Registrations are strong, and it looks like Emu Plains will be fielding around 48 teams this year, which is an increase from 2022.

“Last season, we had 25 out of 29 competitive teams making the Semi-Finals. We won the Penrith District Junior Rugby League Relay. Emu Plains JRLFC were also named Cup Champions of the Year at the Penrith District Junior Rugby League Presentation Dinner and this was probably the biggest highlight” stated Joanne Vella, Emu Plains JRLFC Registrar.

“This award is presented to the club who has the highest combined points of all their competitive teams in Division 1 and Division 2. This is a direct reflection of the effort the players have put in as well as the hard work on the coaching staff and club as a whole” she continued.

The rapid growth of NRLW has seen an increase in female player participation. Adding to this is the Penrith Panthers and Panthers Juniors launch of the Panthers Rugby League Women’s (PRLW) competition this season.

“Having a direct pathway to the Penrith Panthers PRLW, Emu Plains is committed to the growth and development of all our female players, catering for all skill levels and being one of the leading clubs paving the way for our girls to pursue their representative dreams” explained Joanne.

Despite registrations opening and filling, the club still has vacancies ahead of the start of the competition.

“We are still looking for players in all age groups, particularly in the ever expanding female competition, where we will be fielding our first Under 9’s and Under 11’s Girls’ teams” she said.
