How many people can say they’ve been married for over 65 years? Locals Ted and Yvonne Gillroy certainly can and it’s a love for the ages.

The Gillroy’s were married on 26th October 1957 in Bondi. Ted was 22 and Yvonne 20. They first met at a surf club get together in 1954, whilst teenagers. As fate would have it, they both went to primary school together and didn’t even know each other!

The inspirational couple have 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Family means the world to them.

“We all have a very special bond. Family become even more relevant as you get older. Having their love and support is priceless” said Ted and Yvonne.

Sharing a laugh together is something they enjoy, even after all these years.

“Yvonne’s corny jokes make me laugh. She starts at the punchline first. Our kids make us laugh and we have a good time” Ted smiled.

So, what’s the secret to a long and happy marriage?

“Always be aware of your partner. Their feelings, wants and needs. Listen to them. Understand them. Get to know your mate” Ted and Yvonne agreed.

Here’s to a wonderful life lived as husband and wife and all the very best for many more years to come!
