Put your hands up if your children love to play with slime? If your hand is up, then you may want to meet local 12-year-old student Vanessa Iglis, who has just started her own business, Happy Kids Slime.
Vanessa, the budding ‘kidpreneur’ started her business in October 2018. In just six months, she now sells her slime kits at local markets as well as running birthday parties and school holiday workshops.
“My passion with slime started 3 years ago. I used to beg my mum to make slime, but her response was always to take it outside and don’t make a mess. Slime really isn’t that messy if you make it right. I would watch countless YouTube videos to learn the secrets and find the best recipe to make slime squish, poke and stretch. I was obsessed. My mum started to see how crazy I was about slime and started to take some interest” smiled Vanessa.
She soon convinced her mum after begging her to sell slime at the local markets. They worked together to make the slime safe and non-toxic whilst using safe ingredients for kids. Her first market at Willowdale was a sell out!
“Vanessa has helped me with my business, Happy Kids Sand Art. She learnt at a young age how to deal with customers and run a small family business. She attended fetes and festivals doing sand art with kids and then one day begged me to start her own slime business. I kept holding Vanessa back as I wasn’t a big fan of slime at first, but after I saw her passion grow, I decided to let her give it a go” said Maria Iglis, Vanessa’s mum.
“She is always looking at better ways to make slime fun and exciting and we are slowly growing the business.
Her priority is her school studies of course but in her free time, she explores new ways to make slime. There are so many different types of slime you can make, it’s exciting! Next year we plan to travel to New York to attend the Slime Expo” continued Maria.
“My mum is now my biggest fan” Vanessa exclaimed.
Her next workshop will be at Willowdale Community Centre on Wednesday 17th April, then at Panania Diggers on Friday 26th April.
