The Glenmore Park Phantoms Softball Club are set to have another big season, after finishing last season on a high. With 15 teams, 180 players and officials suiting up in purple and white, the local club will be a real threat in the Penrith City Softball Association competition this season.
The Phantoms highlights for last year were very impressive, which included 5 premierships winning teams (Under 11 Boys, Under 13 Boys, Under 16 Girls, Division 1 Ladies and Division 2 Men), 6 players from the club representing NSW and 1 player, Jacob Donaldson, representing the National level in the victorious Under 19 Mens World Champions team that won in Canada in July.
Adding to this, 2 club coaches Chris Coleman and Wayne Frost, were selected to coach NSW. The Phantoms produced the Presidents Cup Winners for 2018 and the cherry on top was Jacob Donaldson winning the Senior Sportsperson of the Year and Chris Coleman the Coach of the Year at the Penrith Valley Sports Awards.
“This year, we were provided with a grant from the NSW State Government and this has allowed for us to rebrand as a club and provide new shirts to all of current and new members. We have also been able to gain 3 new sponsors, Minutemen Press, Millers Scaffolding and TRN Group, who have been able to provide the funds to continue the growth of the club and provide new opportunities for our players and officials” said Craig Woodland, President of Glenmore Park Phantoms Softball Club.
“We are hoping to continue to grow our development program, which allows our players and coaches to improve their skills and game play as well as opening up more opportunities for them in the game. This season is also the first season that we have had since the announcement of softball being back in the Olympic Games. With this announcement, we can continue to promote the game in all aspects of the community” Craig explained. “We have a great club and through the ongoing support of our members and their families, we would not be the club we are today” he ended.
